SPB statue to erect in University of Mysore

Tribute to SP Balasubrahmanyam, a statue of the legendary playback singer will be installed in the Manasagangothri campus of University of Mysore. The statue will be installed opposite the university’s Fine Arts College building, where Balasubrahmanyam’s study chair has been installed in his memory.

Bengaluru artist BC Shivakumar, who is sculpting the bronze statue, says, “Having made many statues of Dr Rajkumar and Vishnuvardhan which are erected across Karnataka, I would consider this as another milestone in my career of 25 years. I got the order to make SPB’s bust from music director Hamsalekha. A committee will decide on the size and poster of the bust.”

Hamasalekha, who is a visiting faculty of Ambedkar study chair, said, “SP Balasubrahmanyam deserves a statue in Karnataka as his best songs are crooned in Kannada. He had admitted that he wants to be reborn in Karnataka because of the love and affection people showered on him. In another six months, his statue will be installed in Mysuru.”
