Lady Superstar Nayanthara’s ‘Netrikann’ is all set for a worldwide premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar from August 13, 2021, onwards. Director Milind Rau, who is exhilarated over the pre-release response to his upcoming movie ‘Netrikann’ says, “We as a team are overwhelmingly elated with the phenomenal response that our movie has obtained till now. It’s exciting to see such a reception before its premiere. All credit goes to Nayanthara madam as she has exerted an unbelievably huge effort. Since she plays the role of a blind person, we managed to get lots of references from visually impaired individuals with their permission. Despite being the producer, Nayanthara wanted to have the test shoot as she preferred to look natural with this role. She was very keen on getting the body language and mannerisms with perfection. In particular, she was particular about appearing with no-makeup looks. I would state that such an effort from an experienced actress is unwanted, but she pulled it off with excellent dedication. We were clear about not going the stereotypical projection of a visually impaired character wearing dark glasses. Expressive eyes alone embellish the actor’s performance, and we made it a point of not ruining it here. It wasn’t an easy task as any artiste would get distracted on the sets, but still, Nayanthara nailed it down perfectly. There are two stages where the character has to look different.
The first one was the character going through the trauma after her eye surgery, where she had to look pale and feeble, followed by the character’s transition to normalcy… Once we got back on the sets after pandemic lockdown, the entire team was astonished to see her reduce so much weight for the song ‘Idhuvum Kadandhu Pogum’. No doubt! The universal crowds have accepted and acclaim her ‘Lady Superstar’ for her sheer dedication. It was an amazing experience working with the entire team. Everyone’s contribution has significantly intensified Netrikann.”
Vignesh Shivan is producing Netrikann for Rowdy Pictures in association with Kross Pictures. The movie has a musical score by Girishh Gopalakrishnan and cinematography by R.D. Rajashekhar.
